Teasers The Island Fire The man should set fire to the ground beneath him and then walk towards the other fire. The wind will then blow the fire towards the opposite end of the island from where the main fire is coming. Once that area is burnt the man can walk onto it knowing that it can't be burnt a second time. Conundrums The Protagoras Paradox This is a paradox with no clear cut answer. Both parties have a good case and it would be interesting to see it argued out in court. Whoever lost could claim to have won - the student in loosing would still not have won a case, Protagoras in loosing would ensure the first victory for his pupil. If Protagoras lost the first case he could then sue a second time on the grounds that his pupil had now won a case. The smart thing for the student to do would be to hire a good lawyer to fight the case for him. If the lawyer won the case the student would still not have won a case himself and would end up the victor. Puzzles Saturday Flights Saturday was the name of the man's private plane.
I bet you can't wait until the next issue for more challenges!!
